We’ve been conditioned to believe that there always is only one moral of the story. Our childhood storybooks profess the same idea. More often than not, we try to find the crux of a story in its end rather than looking for trails throughout the journey. One such story was brought to life on Television by Ed Sullivan in 1964. This was the story of the most influential Rock Band of all time, The Beatles. The show marked the debut of The Beatles on American Television. Rather than being featured just once and charging a bomb to the broadcasters, The Beatles appeared thrice consecutively every weekend on the show for a meagre amount. They were performing in front of one of the largest audiences in television history. Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Ringo were in front of a theatre full of screaming teens and musicians. All of them were relaxed and confident as the music kicked into “All My Loving “. Not for a single time did they look like individuals; it was an ensemble of four equals. All four of them were smiling, having the time of their lives. Magic could be sensed in the air, which was emanating not just from their music, but from the smiles on their faces, their perfect coordination and most importantly, the amount of fun they were having while performing.

Fun is a crucial element for any new enterprise, and at colourdrama.in we have only one rule. The rule states that having fun while working is mandatory, “Have fun or go home!”. Our philosophy lays out the idea that the amount of fun you are having is directly proportional to your performance. This philosophy comes from a team that delivered at the highest level day in and out while having fun on their turf at a legendary scale. Yes, you guessed it right, we’re talking about: The Beatles.

There are, in fact, specific strategies that we try to leverage in our business as well — we call them “The Beatles Principles” — trying to re-create a bit of the Fab Four’s juju. These are 7 takeaways from ‘The Beatles’ story we work and play by -

Build your best team

Don’t get too emotional about your founding members. The Beatles ditched Pete Best for Ringo Star, Shotton was let go for far better band members(Harrison, McCartney). There are better people out there who’d do far better for your team, don’t be afraid to find them.

Always Dream Big but lay Out Realistic Steps to Reach there

“Make your own dream. That’s the Beatles’ story, isn’t it? … Don’t expect Jimmy Carter or Ronald Reagan or John Lennon or Yoko Ono or Bob Dylan or Jesus Christ to come and do it for you. You have to do it yourself.” — John Lennon

The Beatles weren’t an instant hit, they began by becoming the best band in Liverpool to Top 20 UK to being the №1 band in the UK. Their first goal was to reach the Top 20 in the UK, and when ‘Love me Do” reached number #17, they were ecstatic. They started recording in the US only when they knew that they could make it big now

Work hard and push your team to the limit

In Hamburg, they played for long hours every night. After their breakout, they averaged two albums/year, with a crazy touring schedule worldwide and 5 movies in 9 years. No band or pop star in today’s day and age functions on such a demanding schedule.

Strawberry Fields Forever wasn’t created in one go. It was almost impossible for George Martin to combine Strawberry Fields and Forever because they were in entirely different tempo and keys. It took a lot of persistence and consistent pushing from Lennon to finally mix the two songs.

Don’t look at what degree a person has- care about real skills

None of the Beatles members could read music. The only way they learnt was to skip school and see someone in another city to learn how to play a specific chord.

Always Keep Growing

It’s unbelievable how different “Please Please Me” and “A Day in the Life” are, despite just being four years apart. The Beatles made sure that every album they make is different from the previous. They did not stick to one single winning formula and continuously changed their styles for the better.

Encourage Healthy rivalry and Help your Ecosystem

Lennon’s and McCartney’s rivalry always pushed them to be better and made them better together. The Beatles gave “ I Wanna Be Your Man” to the Rolling Stones for the release of their first single.” Pet Sounds” and “Sgt. Pepper’s” success can be only attributed to their rivalry and friendship with the Beach Boys

Never Ever Give Up

“We Don’t Like Their Sound. Groups of Guitars Are on Their Way Out, Mr Epstein”?

The Beatles were rejected a lot. In addition to the infamous Decca Records rejection, the Beatles didn’t even get a chance to give an audition on numerous occasions. They didn’t bother listening to them because they were Liverpool, and good music just didn’t come out from Liverpool in that era
